Sheriff, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
Bio: I began my law enforcement career in 1988 as a police officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Starting as a patrol officer, I was able to rise up through the ranks, working in Search and Rescue, Homeland Security and several divisions within, learning many facets of the agency.
I was promoted to Sergeant in 1996, Lieutenant in 2001, Captain in 2006, and Deputy Chief in charge of Support Operations and eventually over the Patrol Division. In 2011 I was promoted to the position of Assistant Sheriff in charge of Law Enforcement Services. After 26 years on the force, I retired as a commissioned officer and was elected in 2014 as Sheriff of Clark County.
In 2006, I completed my Masters of Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, NV, as well as completing the 227th Session of the FBI National Academy. I am a 2013 graduate of the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) Police Executive Leadership Development Program.
I also have served as Board Member for the Board of Directors LVMPD Foundation (2007-2014), Board of Directors Goodwill of Southern Nevada (2007-2009), Committee Member for the NV Communications Steering Committee 2012-2014 and MCC’s representative to the Public Safety Advisory Committee (2012-2014).
I serve on the board because…I want to make it possible for every special child to have the opportunity to live their dream, and to bring awareness of this special organization to others, giving them the opportunity to make dreams come true.
My wish would be... To provide a wish for every eligible child
