Mother of six, Jackie Katz, was determined to teach her kids the importance of giving back to the community—and to her, actions spoke much louder than words. She became a Make-A-Wish donor and joined our incredible team of volunteers.
Jackie’s first experience with Make-A-Wish included wish kid Natalia, a little girl battling bone cancer. She and her daughter Allie teamed up and got to know Natalia
and her family very well over the months they spent together making Natalia's wish come true. While Jackie was focused on setting a positive example for her kids, she had no idea of the impact her experience would have on her own life.
“At that time my life was pretty chaotic,” Jackie said. “There were some days I felt completely overwhelmed. Then I met Natalia. Seeing the strength and determination that little girl had was awe-inspiring. She will always be my hero.”
Life may get crazy sometimes, especially with six kids, but Jackie wants others to know how easy it is to get involved with Make-A-Wish.
“You can do as little or as much volunteer work as your schedule allows!” She said.
But when she isn’t volunteering with us, you’ll find Jackie hanging out with her kids and spending as much time as she can with her 15-month-old grandson, Huntington. She also likes to travel and watch her husband Cary play poker.
Our chapter is very lucky to have a loving donor and volunteer like Jackie. It is people like her that help make our mission possible!
