John Cracchiolo has been volunteering with Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada since January 2015. He has a soft spot for kids, and seeing how our mission actually changes the lives of children and their families affected by a life-threatening condition inspired him to offer his help in any way he could.
And help he does, especially during this most wonderful time of the year. From the beginning of November thru December, John plays a huge role in the success of the Macy's Believe & Thanks For Sharing Program. For every letter written to Santa (by kids and adults!), Macy’s makes a $1 donation to Make-A-Wish, up to $1million. John picks up the letters from three out of four Macy’s locations, counts them, and delivers them to Make-A-Wish. He has built great relationships with the folks at Macy’s, and his willingness to go above and beyond for our wish kids has made this program a breeze for our staff to accomplish!
But John is nice to us all year long. This past October he had the opportunity to attend our National Conference as a volunteer. His dedication to Make-A-Wish earned him the Linda Richardson scholarship to the conference, usually reserved exclusively for staff and medical professionals.
“I was proud to tell Make-A-Wish employees I was a volunteer for the southern Nevada chapter,” John said. “I’m grateful to have more insight to share with people and organizations who want to know more about our mission.”
While the conference was a high point in John’s time as a volunteer, nothing can beat the looks of appreciation on the kids’ faces, as well as their families.
“That’s what makes volunteering so humbling”, he said.
We are so grateful for the good tidings John brings to Make-A-Wish this, and every, season. If you’d like to learn more about joining our mission as a volunteer, click here.
Happy Holidays from everyone at Make-A-Wish!
