To celebrate what would have been the 16th birthday of her daughter, Avery
, Angel Wish Mom Stephanie Driscoll
joined with Make-A-Wish®
Southern Nevada to host an inspiring evening and honest panel discussion of parenting a wish kid.
Guests arriving in Avery’s favorite colors of pink, navy blue and “Pretty” were treated first to a reception featuring hors d’oeuvres, a violin player, and a pop-up boutique with proceeds going to Make-A-Wish. To honor Avery, local chocolatier Chocolatebuzzz provided samples of a custom dessert of her favorite flavors while Big Whiskey’s catered the event with some of Avery’s favorite foods.
After the reception, Nina Radetich, VP of Community Relations, hosted a panel discussion with three incredible women and moms: Driscoll; Kathy Roller, Angel Wish Mom to Isaac; and Chelsea Bishop, Wish Mom to Navy. Each of these women have faced the unimaginable in parenting a child with a critical illness, and yet, they’ve managed to find joy in some of the most difficult situations. Through tears and laughter, each openly and honestly shared their unique journey, from the struggles of navigating the healthcare system to the hope and comfort a wish provided their entire family.
Driscoll, an outspoken and tireless advocate of families dealing with pediatric cancer and lifelong friend of Make-A-Wish, closed out the evening by imploring attendees to #havebrAvery. Guests were given 16 acts of kindness cards to share with friends and family, asking recipients to have courage and pass along the good in Avery’s memory.
Conversations with Wish Moms gave attendees a chance to understand the undeniable impact of the wish experience and walk away inspired by the strength of these mothers. This Mother’s Day, we recognize all the amazing wish moms, like Stephanie, Kathy and Chelsea, within our community. We are inspired by your strength, poise and courage. On this day, and every day, we celebrate you and we thank you for being our wish kids’ fiercest champions.

Stephanie Driscoll is the author of two books available on Amazon: Sex, Lies, and Bundt Cake, a fictional book based on her own life experience that examines how serious illness and the eventual loss of a child impacts the family; and The Blue Lights, a children’s book that analogously explores death through a positive and glorious lens.
Thank you to all our community partners who made this such a special evening!
