Channel 3 and Mix 94.1’s Mercedes in the Morning are known for keeping the Las Vegas community up to speed on the latest news and events.

But to Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada, they are known for their unwavering dedication and excitement toward our mission. We sat down with Willie Garrett from Channel 3 and Mercedes from Mercedes in the Morning to help you get an even better understanding of the impact they have made toward our mission, and how much they mean to us.

Make-A-Wish: Why did Channel 3 choose to partner with Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada? How long have you been a partner?

Willie Garrett: We chose Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada because of the passion our anchors Kim and Dana Wagner had for the organization. They introduced the staff to it and it morphed into a true partnership. The activities and effort they put in to supporting the kids and fulfilling their dreams is amazing. This is going on our third year being the official media partner and it’s been great.

Make-A-Wish: How does your vision align with Make-A-Wish?

Willie Garrett: Our vision and goals for the station is to connect with the community, which includes children, and do it on all platforms we’re involved in: on-air, social, digital, etc. Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada’s direction is the course we want to follow.

Make-A-Wish: What is your main role within the partnership? How do you feel you help contribute to the mission?

Willie Garrett: We promote and support Walk For Wishes® and spread the word about Make-A-Wish to our southern Nevada viewers as best we can, on television, on our website and through our social media.

Make-A-Wish: What’s been the most rewarding part about working with Make-A-Wish? What’s been the most surprising?

Willie Garrett: The most rewarding part is knowing we’re helping grant a child’s wish with our exposure and effort to help raise funds for Walk For Wishes®. We were most surprised at the attendance of the Walk—thousands show up and it’s great for our community.

Make-A-Wish: What’s one word you would use to describe Make-A-Wish?

Willie Garrett: Love

Make-A-Wish: Why did you choose to partner with Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada?

Mercedes: We have always loved Make-A-Wish for their compassion, not just for the kids they serve but for the families and for all of the volunteers. When we were asked to be a part of a wish reveal, we knew that this organization was home.

Make-A-Wish: How does your vision align with Make-A-Wish?

Mercedes: Our vision aligns with Make-A-Wish because we feel like creating a bond with our listeners is more than just a one-time interaction. Like Make-A-Wish, these families become families for life and we feel that passionately about our listeners. And we are honored to bring the two together through the power of radio. It is wonderful to see the people that are now involved with Make-A-Wish because they heard our passion for the organization.

Make-A-WishWhat has been the most rewarding part about working with Make-A-Wish?

Mercedes: The most rewarding part is not just the wishes, but the bonds that you form with the other volunteers, staff and families that will last a lifetime. We still keep in touch with so many of the families.

Make-A-WishWhat’s one word you would use to describe Make-A-Wish?

Mercedes: Hope.

We have been honored to receive many awards within the radio/media world, but none of them compare to that feeling you get to be involved in an organization that truly changes lives.

In a world where media reigns, we are grateful for the support of Channel 3 and Mix 94.1.
