Wish Discovery Training

Our Wish Discovery volunteers have the distinct honor of helping our kiddos discover their one true wish. This is one of our most emotionally demanding volunteer roles at Make-A-Wish, and it takes a special person to carry out this important part of our mission.

Pre-Qualification Interviews
If you are interested in becoming a Wish Discovery volunteer, you must complete a pre-qualification interview first. The interview is held here at our office and only takes 15 minutes. Once you complete your interview, our staff will let you know if you qualify to sign up for Wish Discovery volunteer training.

Pre-qualification interviews typically happen about a month before Wish Discovery training and we have several days and times open to accommodate different schedules.

*Please note that you won't be officially approved to attend Wish Discovery training until you complete your interview and Make-A-Wish staff has informed you that you have been qualified to move on to the next step.

Wish Design Training

Wish Designers have a unique opportunity with our wish kids and their families. They get to plan the ultimate party to make sure our kiddos know their wish is coming true. They also help with send-offs and welcome homes as well as any other enhancements that make the wish experience memorable for our kids.

Wish Design training does not require a pre-qualification interview. The 2019 Wish Design training is scheduled for:

May 11 10:00am to 12:00pm
October 12 10:00am to 12:00pm

Celebrity Host Training

When a child wishes to meet a celebrity, a Celebrity Host serves as a liaison between the wish family, Make-A-Wish and the celebrity by accompanying the family during the wish experience and handling day-of-wish details. This individual will interact with the wish family, celebrity handlers and the celebrities themselves, as well as troubleshoot and assist the family with any special requests that may arise. A celebrity host will also document the wish experience by providing a written wish report describing the wish day experience.

Celebrity Host training takes place 2 times per year, in March and November. Upcoming Celebrity Training is scheduled for:

November 9 10:00am to 12:00pm

Ambassador Training

Ambassadors represent Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada at various community events to share information regarding our national and local history, our mission, how to refer a child and how the audience can get involved with our chapter. Ambassadors may be invited to speak with service organizations, corporations and schools, and will know in advance what is required for each presentation. As an Ambassador of Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, you will educate audiences on the healing power of a wish! Also included in this training is Volunteer Trainer Training where you will become qualified to teach volunteer training classes.

Ambassador training takes place 2 times per year. Our next 2019 Ambassador training is scheduled for:

Saturday, June 8 10:00am to 12:00pm

Medical Ambassador Training

Medical Outreach Ambassadors spread awareness about Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada by reaching out to new and existing medical contacts through discovery calls and hospital/practice visits. They educate medical professionals about qualifying medical criteria for wishes and address misconceptions. They fulfill medical stewardship needs. They participate in health fairs and attend events put on by our nonprofit partners (examples: medical seminars, community and internal events, and more).

This training is for background-checked volunteers who have already attended a Volunteer Orientation. This is the first in a series of two training sessions.
The inaugural 2019 Medical Outreach Ambassador training is scheduled for:

Saturday, June 8 10:00am to 11:30am
