How did you first get involved with Make-A-Wish?
I have admired the work of the organization for many years and finally decided to reach out and get involved myself. I found the resources to volunteer easily online and have had a wonderful experience communicating and working with the Make-A-Wish team.
What experience or wish has been most impactful for you?
I cannot choose just one experience. I am most impacted when something I make for the child becomes special to them. One little girl loved Rapunzel, so I created a crown braid for her to wear, and it was really amazing to see her attach to it and wear it proudly. I feel connected to each child that I can create for and know that they have that little token that’s all theirs to take with them on their journey.
What do you wish other people knew about Make-A-Wish?
I wish that other people knew how your own talents and creativity can make a difference in a child’s life. Volunteering isn’t just showing up, it’s contributing to a project with your own unique skill set to make a project personal and special. The better you can grasp and cater to the interests of the child, the more enjoyable the outcome can be.
What do you do when you aren’t volunteering?
I assist with the family business (my husband’s law firm) and run the house on a daily basis. I am a proud wife and mother of two whose children have always come first, so their activities have consumed the majority of my schedule. I love to care for foster kittens and our pets that we hold very dear. I am interested in all things creative and DIY and have a crafty mind that is always trying to dream up something new.
If you could say one word about your experience with MAW, what would it be? Why?
Inspirational. I am inspired by the strength of every child and every family that I encounter. It is humbling to work in the presence of those that are facing such hardships yet continue to persevere.
