Using the power of writing, Elle serves as the voice of wish kids and their families by telling their impactful stories. Although she hasn't met many of the kids she writes about, she feels like she truly knows them.
Elle first got involved with volunteering at Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada when a Make-A-Wish representative spoke at her Howard Hughes group. The opportunity completely peaked her interest, and Elle looked into different ways she could volunteer. That’s when she discovered the certified story writing program.
As a wish story writer, Elle says writing about wish kids has challenged her and touched her in a different way with each story. Although she hasn’t had the opportunity to meet many of them in person, Elle says she truly feels like she knows them. “To be the voice for these children and their families is a very special way to contribute,” she says.
Elle wrote wish kid Yamileth's story about fighting lymphoma and her wish to have a playset in her backyard.
What she wants other people to know about Make-A-Wish, besides knowing that John Cena and Justin Bieber have granted the most celebrity wishes, is the joy felt when giving back time, talent or treasure.
Outside of telling wish kids’ stories, Elle seeks out fabulous dining experiences to enjoy and works through her bucket list of places she wants to visit.
When asked to describe her experience volunteering with Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada in one word, Elle said grateful. She said she’s very appreciative to have found a way to help Make-A-Wish children realize their dreams and get a tiny reprieve from their medical battles.
Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada® relies on dedicated volunteers, like Elle, to help grant the wishes of children battling critical illnesses in our community. Click here to learn more about our many volunteer opportunities and to sign-up for our next Volunteer Orientation.
