Fast forward to 2000 and Gina found herself a graduate of the photo school at Community College of Southern Nevada (CSN). The blurry photographs from her childhood experiments were now clear images of promise.
A self-proclaimed perpetual student, Gina kept up with her love of photography while raising three children with her husband and working as a commercial insurance agent. She even earned her Masters of Photography from Professional Photographers of America in 2017. However, it wasn’t until her kids were grown that she was really able to spend uninterrupted time behind her camera.
Today Gina runs her own photography studio, Breathe — a word that inspires her to remain calm whenever nerves threaten to take over. She focuses on fine art and portrait photography, but has recently dabbled in what we like to call wish photography.
Before our Vegas Golden Knights became a household name, a friend of hers who worked with us here at Make-A-Wish® Southern Nevada called to see if she would be interested in volunteering her talents during a wish reveal involving our now Western Conference champs. Gina came and was captivated by everything she saw; from the smile of a kid battling a critical illness to the passion of every person involved.
“After seeing what the staff goes through to give these wishes, I was hooked,” Gina said. “The staff works so hard behind the scenes.”
Gina has continued to bless us with her talents by capturing images for multiple wish reveals and wish experiences, but she does have a favorite. Gina recently took pictures for Quinn’s wish, along with fellow photographer Virginia Trudeau, and loved watching this young girl with epilepsy transform into an ethereal mermaid right before her eyes.
“It was a gift to watch it all come together,” she said. “This is what fills my cup.”
Gina realizes that taking pictures for our wish kids isn’t just about giving back to them; it’s about giving back to the community as a whole.
“Giving back to this community is a no brainer,” Gina gushed. “I have been blessed with a wonderful life. The opportunity to use my talents to do good for our community is something I can’t NOT do. I hope to continue working with MAW as long as they will have us.”
