Why do you choose to volunteer at Make-A-Wish?
My husband and I moved from Ohio to the Las Vegas area in January of this year. Although we moved to Sun City, a 55-year-old active-adult community that offers a variety of amenities/activities to keep us busy, I was also looking for something outside the Sun City community to meet new people as well as help within the community. Having worked in a medical office for 30+ years, I felt most comfortable working in an office environment.
How did you first get involved with Make-A-Wish?
My daughter-in-law works for Allegiant, and when she heard I was looking for volunteer work, she immediately suggested Make-A-Wish.
What experience do you most look forward to?
I am attending a training session soon for wish discovery, so I am looking forward to being able to interact with the kiddos and families soon.
What do you wish other people knew about Make-A-Wish?
How helping out in the smallest way can be so fulfilling. Since I haven’t worked with any kids or families yet, I am speaking right now about the staff. Every single team member is so appreciative of every task that the volunteers do, no matter how big or small. It honestly makes my time spent at Make-A-Wish very rewarding, and I look forward to coming in every week! I am certain that the wish kids and families are every bit as appreciative.
What do you do when you aren’t volunteering?
Hiking Red Rock and Mt. Charleston, quilting, reading, playing Mahjong, and would like to do more traveling.
If you could say one word about your experience with Make-A-Wish, what would it be?
We rely on dedicated volunteers, like Rose, to help grant the wishes of children battling critical illnesses in our community. Click here to learn more about our many volunteer opportunities and to sign-up for our next Volunteer Orientation.
