It takes more than a village to make dreams come true—it takes a community of dedicated and passionate people with the same goal: to grant a wish for every eligible child in southern Nevada. As National Volunteer Appreciation Week comes to an end, we want to thank our hundreds of volunteers from all over the valley who offer their time, talents and passion to our mission. They truly are the heart of our organization.
Here are a few of the ways our volunteers are changing lives in the community:
Fundraiser: Our fundraisers help raise awareness and support for our mission. High school student Ryan Koppy does this by making t-shirts inspired by our own wish kids!
Translator: Communication is key to making dreams come true. Translators like Christian help members of our Hispanic community discover the power of a wish. As a Spanish speaker, Christian has made it a personal goal to bring even more awareness about Make-A-Wish to his fellow community. Ever since he noticed Spanish-speaking children often wait longer to receive wish granters, he has does everything he can to ensure their experience is exactly what they have been dreaming about.
Wish Granter: As a wish granter, our volunteers help a child discover their one true wish; then get to help make it come true from beginning to end! One of our volunteers, Rebeca, received a wish when she was 12 years old, and now she’s 21 and paying it forward as a wish granter right here in southern Nevada.
There are so many more ways our volunteers help make the impossible, possible. From airport greeters to office support, the range of opportunities to let your talents shine is nearly endless! If you’d like to learn more about becoming a volunteer click here.
