For Aryanna, New York City always meant more than the Empire State Building or Statue of Liberty. It meant theatre, bright lights, and Broadway.
Despite her battle with leukemia, nothing could hinder the dreams of this charismatic 17-year old. As her junior year approached, she was faced with the decision of skipping theatre classes to schedule her chemotherapy treatments. Instead of getting into character, she was building her character by shaving her head.
"It wasn't just me that was diagnosed with cancer, but my whole family," Ary said. Broadway was the perfect way to share her passion with those that stood by her side, each step of the way. After finishing treatments, Ary's volunteer wish granters surprised her by revealing her wish at Steve Wynn's ShowStoppers. Feeling in her element, she took the stage, sang her favorite number, and watched as the details of her wish unraveled.
As the wheels touched down in NYC, Ary examined her reflection mirroring the city skyline. Her wish was coming true, and no doctor appointment was stopping her. She was able to stand on the stages of some of the greatest Broadway performers, including one of her favorites, Idina Menzel.
Upon return, Ary said, "I will stand on those stages again one day, but as a performer." As a passionate and involved theatre student, Ary's trip gave her the strength she needed to fight through her battle. She now has high hopes for the future, knowing that her dreams are that much closer to a reality. Aryanna told us, "Make-A-Wish® turned a negative experience into a positive one. This is just a chapter of my life closing, and I am excited to see where I go."
