“ In that moment in time, it was all smiles. ”

He’s a six-foot-tall, wearing a captain’s hat and filling kids with excitement. He’s Mickey Mouse, of course, and he’s a part of Dominic’s wish to go on a Disney® Cruise Line®.

Diagnosed with leukemia at 22 months, Dominic was referred to Make-A-Wish® shortly thereafter. However, Mom and Dad decided to wait until he was a little bit older to have his wish granted and that was one of the best decisions for Dominic. As Dominic completed his final treatments for leukemia, he was then diagnosed with lymphoma. When the Wish Granters first met with Dominic, he could not stop talking about his first trip to Disneyland, where he met Chip & Dale. His excitement took him to the sea where he was able to experience his most favorite place, while on the ocean.

All Dominic kept talking about was riding the Donald Duck water slide. This was his favorite because “You get to go up and down and it’s a big slide and you go over the ocean.” The slide also extends over the ship for the ultimate experience. Dominic was able to meet Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Mickey even took time out of his busy schedule to dance with Dominic! Not everyone gets to do that.

One highlight to the cruise was Pirate Night, which included a pirate makeover for Dominic! Dominic said, “We saw Jack Sparrow walking” so they got a photo. Fireworks lit up the night and everyone had a blast and in that moment in time, nothing mattered; no hospital appointments, no fear, just smiles.

On the ship, the family was also able to watch Disney's Planes movie in the ship theater, where this was the movie's 2nd day of worldwide release! They also received a scavenger hunt mystery to solve where clues took them all over the boat. They toured a Disney art gallery and played in water parks and pools -on the boat! Dominic enjoyed the "Oceaneers" club for his age group while his parents were able to enjoy a dinner with two plates of food that could only be described as art.

Disney Cruise Line's unbelievable staff went above and beyond for Dominic and his family. It was a trip filled with memories and smiles. Only one could describe it as magical, Dominic.
