When 16-year-old Brandon ended up in the ER after PE class last year, he had no idea that he was sick. The introverted Utah teen was diagnosed with a rare heart condition called Uhl’s Anomaly, also known as “parchment heart.”
Brandon is not the only child in his family with this condition, and now he’s the second child in his family to receive a heart transplant. Since the transplant, Brandon is feeling much better and can focus on his favorite past time, exotic cars. His favorites are the Nissan GTR and Fair Lady Z.
Brandon has always wanted to be a race car driver, and thanks to the help of our friends at Dream Racing and Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Brandon’s wish came true. He fulfilled his need for speed behind the wheel of a black Nissan GTR. His top speed? One hundred sixty miles per hour!
“It was really fun, and a LOT of adrenaline,” Brandon says. “It felt kind of like a roller coaster in a way, but very fast.” His parents even got in on the action, riding twice around the track with a professional driver. The family got to experience our famous Las Vegas hospitality on their visit as well. They enjoyed The Blue Man Group show, where they went backstage, and one of the cast members autographed their ticket.
Most of Brandon’s extended family lives in Mexico, so throughout his medical journey, his immediate family has worked hard to lean on and support one another. This wish gave Brandon a break from his illness and a chance to feel like a real race car driver. Leave it to Vegas to roll out the red carpet for this special wish kiddo.
